Video marketing is essential to growing your business. In fact, mobile video consumption rises by 100% each year. Still, you need to be sure to do your research to create a high-quality video for your target audience. One way you can do this is by working with a professional video production studio. You may need their full production support or just the use of their production studio. Either way, there’s nothing worse than arriving to a video shoot and realizing you forgot the essentials. Learn everything you need to bring with you to the studio here.

Make a Plan

One of the most important things you can bring to your video shoot is a plan for your video. While it may not seem too difficult, trying to create a video without any background research can result in a low-quality, ineffective video.

First, you need to choose your goal. This is the most important part, as the rest of your video will depend on this. You also need to consider your target audience as you determine the goal.

What do you want your audience to know about your brand after watching your video?

You also need to choose the right type of video. Some of these include animated videos, live-action videos, interview-based videos, scripted videos, and more. Depending on your goal and audience, some types of video content will be better suited for your purposes than others.

Have Your Script

Next, you need to write a script for your video. Depending on the services you have hired the studio for, the production company may help in the scriptwriting process. But if you are renting the studio space only, you’ll need to do everything you can to be prepared for production and to finish filming within your allotted rental time.

Once you have your topic and the type of video you want to shoot, you can plan out the content. You can either write a full script, word-for-word, or you can list the general topics you want to cover if you feel comfortable in front of the camera. If you need a teleprompter, check with the production studio to see if they have one for rental.

Video Gear

Before you start shooting your video, you need to learn more about what type of video gear you need.

If you have hired the studio for production services, then equipment should be included. But with a studio rental only, often times video production studios will denote what is included in the rental. You will likely be responsible for the majority of the production gear, though the studio may allow you to rent some of their equipment for an additional fee.

To be prepared, make sure you ask your production studio what gear they have available.

The main pieces of gear you will need to consider are camera, lighting, and audio.

Video Props

If you are looking for other video shoot essentials, props can play an important part in creating a good looking video. While they may not seem necessary, they add to the production value of your video and can help tell the story.

The props that you choose can help you reinforce your brand and improve the overall look of your video. For example, consider incorporating your brand colors within the video through props.

The Right Look

Finally, you need to keep in mind your on-camera look - wardrobe and hair & makeup. What you wear on camera is very important.

You’ll want to wear something that you are comfortable in while still presenting yourself in a professional manner. We call this an “elevated normal” look. Something that you feel comfortable and confident in that relays the right message.

For technical reasons with the camera and lighting, it’s usually a good idea to avoid wearing bright or hot colors, avoid logos and graphics on clothing that can be distracting (unless the logo is your brand), and avoid tight or intricate patterns on shirts that can look warped on camera. The colors you wear on camera can affect other surrounding objects and affect how you look.

Lastly, make sure you try on your outfit before your video shoot and bring some backup options just in case!
